Board Membership

In order to 1) address and meet the needs of all types of child passenger safety advocacy groups and individuals and 2) provide input from all involved parties into the training/certification policies and procedures as well as the training program and curriculum itself, the NCPSB has been organizes to include representatives from the following permanent and non-permanent member categories:

• AAA
• Safe Kids Worldwide (Non-voting)
• Governor's Highway Safety Association (GHSA)
• National Safety Council (As Secretariat — Non-voting)
• NHTSA Headquarters (Non-voting)
• NHTSA Regions (Non-voting)

Non-Permanent
• At Large
• Child Restraint Manufacturers
• CPS Advocate
• Diversity
• Injury Prevention
• Injury Prevention/Emergency Services
• Injury Prevention/Public Health
• Law Enforcement
• National Nursing
• Vehicle Manufacturers

Membership on the Board is for a period of three (3) years. The three-year terms of membership are staggered so that the entire Board is not replaced at one time.

Members representing Child Passenger Safety Advocates, Diversity, National Nursing Organizations, National Law Enforcement Organizations, State Injury Prevention/Public Health organizations, CPS Advocates and At-Large members are selected through an open application process.

Members representing AAA, National Safety Council (the administrative agency), American Academy of Pediatrics, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Headquarters, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Regions, Safe Kids Worldwide, Governor's Highway Safety Association, vehicle manufacturers and child restraint manufacturers are appointed to the Board by their organization/alliance and are not subject to an open application process.

Roles and Responsibilities of National CPS Board Members:

  • Board members are required to participate in up to four, two-day meetings per year.

  • Board members are required to serve on approximately three committees.

  • Board members are required to work on committee and other Board activities between Board meetings.


Membership Selection Process
As noted above, some members of the Board are selected through an open application process and others are appointed to the Board by their organization/alliance and are not subject to an open application process. For more information on the new member application and review process see:
